Apple Pruners

Working outdoors in Tasman pruning our apple trees can be cold but invigorating work.

This is outdoor, physical work in winter conditions. You will be using loppers and secateurs to prune apple trees, including working from ladders. The hours are weather dependent.  Initially on an hourly rate if training, you’ll quickly move to contract rates when you’re competent.

Ideally, you will have experience, but if you're prepared to work the full season we can train you.  You'll need good hand and upper body strength.

Initially you will work around 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.30pm but we may extend the hours available. This could mean working up to 50 hours per week, so you need the flexibility to be able to work longer days, and at least a part day on Saturday.

The majority of our orchards are located at 91 Umukuri Road, Riwaka which is approximately 5km from central Motueka, but some orchards are further afield. You will need your own reliable transport to get to work.

What we're looking for

  • Physically fit with good hand and upper body strength
  • Able to commit to the full pruning season
  • Reliable with dependable transport to work sites in the Motueka/Riwaka area
  • Able to provide proof of legal right to work in New Zealand
